Following a dour start to the campaign which has seen the Reds slip down to 18th place, it would be fair to say that there are more than a few concerns on Merseyside. Unfortunately, these worries seem to have got to the players as well, with Daniel Agger stating that the club’s lack of attacking prowess over recent weeks has been simply unacceptable.

After suffering a shock 3-0 defeat to West Brom in the opening game of the season, the Reds proceeded to net an impressive point against Manchester City only to squander all of that good work with a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend. This means that the club have made their worst start in 50 years and there is no doubt that attacking issues are mainly to blame.

Agger seems to agree that poor finishing is the reason behind the poor predicament. When asked about this by the press the Danish defender said, “It’s a concern, yes. You can see against Arsenal that it wasn’t only one player, it wasn’t two players, it was three, four, five, six players, who had chances, including myself. The chances are there, that’s the most important thing. Hopefully we will start to score a few. We’ve got to believe in it. Everybody has to believe in it, otherwise they shouldn’t be at a club like this. Nothing is easy to fix. Not in football and not in life.”

Unfortunately, things are unlikely to get easier for Brendan Rodgers over the course of the next few weeks. The Reds have a tricky away tie to Sunderland immediately after the international break, while they are then acting as hosts to Manchester United the week after. Bearing this in mind, it’s no surprise to see the pressure already mounting significantly on all at the club.
