Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has said that the media and the critics should not be concerned about the time spent by Darren Fletcher off the field in his recovery. The Scottish midfielder has been absent from the first team after being granted indefinite holiday by the club.
He was diagnosed with a rare form of bowel syndrome that did not allow him to play or train. It was initially thought that Darren Fletcher will be back in the Manchester United first team, wearing the man utd tshirt by the start of the new season. However, Ferguson said a few days ago that he expects Fletcher to take a little more time.
The assistant manager at the club Mike Phelan has said that he does not want the media to put a time frame on return date for the 28-year-old. Fletcher recently said that he does not believe that he would have to retire as a result of this because he still has a lot of years left in him. Manchester United missed the presence of the 28-year-old to great extent last season. Darren Fletcher is one of the regular players for the manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Without his presence, Ferguson was unable to lead Manchester United to any trophy last season.
“Darren joined in for four or five days last week. We decided that, if he felt well enough and felt good, we’d bring him into a training session. That’s developed a little bit longer than what we actually thought. I don’t know what the position is but if Scotland want to take him, it’s probably just to be part of the squad and to introduce him back into that. But there’s a long, long way yet for Darren Fletcher before we see him playing again,” Phelan told MUTV.
