Tony Cascarino believes Unai Emery needs more signings at Arsenal

Former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino believes Unai Emery requires more signings at Arsenal before the team can frequently challenge for the top-four positions. The Gunners have failed to qualify for the elite competition for two-straight seasons and that streak could extend for another campaign unless they make up the three-point deficit to fourth-placed Chelsea.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Cascarino highlighted that there could be further change in personnel during the forthcoming transfer windows with the futures of a number of players hanging in the balance, he said: “There’s a number of Arsenal players who know their future, long-term, isn’t going to at the club if Unai Emery is the manager.

“Nothing against Ramsey but he’s a player who is not going to be at the Emirates next year. I’m not sure about people like Aubameyang, his goal record fantastic, sensational at doing what he does, getting goals. Lacazette will get goals but I’m not sure they are the type of forwards Unai Emery will want. Behind the scenes he may be saying we need six or seven players to make a massive difference to this team.”

The Gunners recently experienced a boost after getting the better of Chelsea in the Premier League and this reduced the gap to the final Champions League spot to just three points. However, they thereafter failed to replicate the same performance against Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round where they suffered a rather disappointing 3-1 defeat.

Moreover, the game saw the Gunners suffer further setbacks with both Sokratis and Laurent Koscielny withdrawn with ankle and jaw injuries respectively, but the duo should not be sidelined for the long term. Arsenal return to league action in midweek against struggling Cardiff City and they should be expected to secure a comfortable triumph over the Welsh outfit. The Gunners ran 3-2 victors over Neil Warnock’s side during the reverse fixture.
