Manchester United Still Interested In Signing Real Madrid Defender

Manchester United will reportedly return for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane years after they came close to signing him. United are long-term admirers of the France international defender and have chased him severally in the past but have not been able to take him to Old Trafford. But now, according to various reports coming from the news media outlets in Spain, the Old Trafford club want to make another attempt at signing him in the summer.

Varane’s current Real Madrid contract will run down at the end of the 2022 season and his future at Madrid continues to be up in the air. Also, Mundo Deportivo reported on Sunday that the French defender is a hot prospect and is a wanted man by some other clubs apart from United. The report states that Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Milan are all monitoring his situation under manager Zinedine Zidane and are waiting for the perfect time to make a bid.

While these clubs are circling him, Madrid will retain their stance of not wanting to let the 17-year-old leave the club as they believe he still has a lot to offer at the Santiago Bernabeu. Manchester United have long been chasing Varane and even made a bid for him back in 2011 before he eventually chose to sign for Madrid instead.

The English Premier League club tried again to sign Varane in 2019 but it was another fruitless attempt as the defender did not depart from his club.

Signing Varane or another top defender is a priority for Olé Gunnar Solksjær who wants to bring in a tough defender to partner captain Harry Maguire amid fears Eric Billy and Victor Lindelöf may not be good-enough defenders for the Red Devils.
