UNITED: UNBEATEN RUN HITS ELEVEN GAMES

Manchester United have taken their unbeaten run to eleven games in all competitions after the goalless draw with Watford in the Premier League at the weekend. Manchester United and Watford met at the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday evening for their second Premier League meeting. At the end of 90 minutes, the two teams were unable to score at least one goal as the game ended in a stalemate.

Interim manager Ralf  Rangnick and his Manchester United players came into the home game with the Hornets in the league with a ten-game unbeaten run though it must be pointed out that they were eliminated from the FA Cup during the run via penalties. Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup by English Championship side Middlesbroughat the fourth round stage through the dreaded penalty shootout after the two teams scored a goal each at the end of regulation time plus extra time.

Manchester United had a lot of decent chances to score the goals needed to beat Watford at home, but they were wasteful in front of goal as they failed to avenge their 4-1 defeat in their first league meeting this season. The big defeat at the hands of Watford led to the  dismissal of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ex-United striker Solskjaer was replaced by fellow former player and caretaker manager Michael Carrick before German Ralf Rangnick was appointed as the club’s interim manager until the end of the season.

Ralf Rangnick and his players have not suffered a defeat in all competitions since the 1-0 home loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league in January. Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho scored the only goal of the game to give Wolves the three points on offer.

After the home draw with Watford, the unbeaten run is now at eleven games since the Wolves defeat and it will face a stern test when they take on hosts and defending champions Manchester City in the league on Sunday.
